What does a Special Education Advocate DO?

What does a Special Education Advocate Do?


A Special Education Advocate can provide assistance throughout the special education process in various ways:


  • Help in understanding parental and child rights under IDEA and state law
  • Provide assistance during the referral process or eligibility determination
  • Interpretation of evaluation reports
  • Evaluation of current and proposed Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives
  • Evaluation of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Suggesting appropriate services, programs, accommodations, and/or modifications to meet the individual needs of the student
  • Analysis of progress monitoring data
  • Preparation of parents for IEP/504 meetings
  • Attendance at IEP/504 meetings
  • Drafting communications to school/district personnel
  • Evaluation of whether a child's placement is appropriate
  • Assistance with the dispute process, including providing advice on when an attorney may be necessary

We offer hourly consultations on Dyslexia Education and Support.  This includes Testing, Processes, Schools, and more for $150 per hour.
